At St Michael’s, we aim to ensure the transition into Kindergarten is a smooth and positive experience for all students and parents.
Our transition program involves opportunities for students to visit the school, participate in classroom activities, playground games and get to know their ‘Mighty Mate’. Staff conduct sessions for parents to learn vital information about school readiness and supporting their children in the transition to school.
Kindergarten children are well and truly a part of the school community prior to their official first day at school. Students receive information about our school, cards from their buddy and a few surprises along the way to make them feel special and excited about coming to St Michael's. They also attend an Orientation Day and Play Group.
Community is an important aspect of life at St Michael’s, where social relationships are supported and encouraged. Play Group is a great time for new students and parents to meet other students and parents who will be a part of the new Kindergarten class.
Students transitioning to high school are also supported by involvement in induction days at the brand new, Catherine McAuley Catholic College, Medowie and also, San Clemente High School, Mayfield. St Michael’s classroom teachers and Learning Support Teachers are also available to discuss learning and social needs of transitioning students with representatives of from both High School.
