St Michael’s aims to provide opportunities to develop and cultivate leadership qualities within all students. We aim to instil in students a strong sense of social justice through service to others.
Students from Year 6 are all eligible to become school leaders. Year 5 students undertake a leadership program in preparation for Year 6. St Michael’s has eight school leaders (four girls and four boys) each Semester. This gives many students a chance at leadership, even though all Year 6 students are treated as leaders.
The leaders perform a number of ceremonial roles on special occasions. They meet and liaise often with the Stage 3 teachers and principal. The leaders are responsible for setting a good example of being responsible, respectful and safe at all times.
They have responsibility for representing the school at community, school and diocesan functions – e.g. ANZAC Day March, Catholic Schools Week Mass, Caritas Launch, Carols at the Bay.
The leaders see a major part of their role as being problem solvers and forward thinkers.
